Markus Henning Giess

"Wherever you go, go with all your heart.!“ Confucius

Since 1990, Markus has accumulated over 10,000 hours of training, from dance to yoga, massage to meditation, yoga anatomy to energy work. With over 30 years of teaching experience under his belt, Markus is considered one of the most prominent Yin Yoga & Anatomy teachers in Europe.

Markus’s first introduction to yoga was with Power Yoga rock star Bryan Kest, with whom he completed a 350 hour teacher training in Mexico before encountering Yin Yoga with the unique and wonderful Paul & Suzee Grilley.  Since then he is a passionate yinster having completed several Yin Yoga teacher trainings with Paul and Suzee, and with whom he also assists on their trainings. Their versatile teachings about yin yoga and anatomy, skeletal variations and ancient chakra meditation and yoga philosophy of the sutras and gita are only a few of the stand outs of their teacher training programme.

Markus has also completed an intensive Yin/Yang & Meditation Teacher Training with the beautifully authentic and inspiring teacher and Insight Yoga founder Sarah Powers. Her approach to interweave the insight and practice of Yoga, Buddhism, Taoism and Transpersonal Psychology into an integral practice is exceptional, unique and incredibly complementary to Paul & Suzee’s teachings.

Karla Brodie and Neal Ghoshal, Restorative Yoga teachers who inspire with their authenticity, taught him their incomparable Restorative Yoga style "The Art of Rest".

Markus is a practitioner of Vipassana Meditation for 30 years and a meditation teacher for the last 15 years.

He is also a Reiki master/teacher and has completed an extensive professional Thai Massage Training and Thai Massage Therapy Training at Wat Po in Bangkok, the renowned and oldest Thai Massage school in the world.

“It was an honour to have been taught this ancient art of “Nuad” – the “ancient healing touch” and Thai Yoga (RueSi DatTon) by so many true Thai masters.”

Before Markus discovered yoga, he worked for 16 years as a professional dancer and musical performer in such shows as “Cats”, “Elisabeth”, “Buddy Holly” in Germany, Switzerland and England, as well as a choreographer, teacher and presenter.

With his extensive experience as a performer, yogi and teacher, Markus is known by his students for bringing together his vast and varied knowledge to offer stimulating, educational and fascinating trainings / workshops in a relaxed atmosphere and making yoga anatomy highly entertaining.

Markus currently teaches teacher training courses and workshops in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in German and in Asia, Australia and New Zealand in English with his Kiwi partner Karin.
